Mid-Year Review 2026: Investing in People, Skills and Safety

As Genequip moves into the second half of 2026, our focus remains clear: to support Guyana’s mining, construction, and agricultural sectors with capable people, practical knowledge, and dependable equipment.

Machines are central to these industries, but their performance depends on the people who operate, maintain and support them. During the first half of the year, Genequip invested in safety training, technical development, customer education and industry partnerships that strengthen local expertise.

Strengthening Safety Across Our Operations

Safety continues to guide how we work. Earlier this year, safety representatives from departments across Genequip completed First Aid Training. The programme developed practical emergency-response skills and prepared team members to respond more effectively when immediate assistance is required.

In April, Genequip also participated in the annual Safety Walk alongside other industry stakeholders. The event reinforced a shared responsibility to promote safer working practices across Guyana’s industrial sectors. These initiatives help keep safety visible, practical and part of everyday operations.

Developing Local Technical Expertise

Modern mining and construction equipment requires technicians who understand increasingly advanced mechanical, hydraulic and electronic systems. During the first half of 2026, Genequip technicians participated in specialised factory training for Komatsu equipment. The sessions covered the structure, maintenance, and functionality of medium-sized hydraulic excavators, providing the team with deeper knowledge to support diagnostics, repairs, and preventive maintenance.

Technical development also continued around the Komatsu PC4000 Mining Hydraulic Shovel. Building local capability for large mining equipment allows Genequip to respond more effectively to customer needs and reduces reliance on technical resources from overseas.

As the authorised Komatsu dealer in Guyana, Genequip continues to invest in the knowledge required to support equipment throughout its working life. Technicians who delivered exceptional performance during the first half of the year were also recognised for their contribution to service quality and customer support.

Transferring Knowledge to Customer Teams

Equipment performance depends on correct operation as much as proper maintenance. Genequip continued delivering operator and technical training at the Oko West Gold Project in Region 7. Working with operators, trainers and maintenance personnel, the team provided practical instruction on the Komatsu PC4000 Mining Hydraulic Shovel and HD1500 Mining Truck.

The sessions covered safe operation, daily inspections and operating practices that support productivity while helping to reduce avoidable wear and downtime. Correct machine operation is one of the most effective forms of preventive maintenance. It helps customers protect their equipment, control operating costs and achieve more consistent performance over time. By combining technical support with knowledge transfer, Genequip helps customers strengthen their operations while developing skills within Guyana’s mining workforce.

Connecting Education with Industry

Guyana’s expanding industrial sectors will require more trained technicians, operators, and equipment specialists. Genequip continues to support this development through its Memorandum of Understanding with the Guyana Technical Institute. The partnership helps connect classroom education with the skills and expectations found in active industrial environments.

During GTI’s Open Day, students learned more about career opportunities across heavy equipment, mining, construction and agriculture. They were also introduced to several of the brands represented by Genequip, including Komatsu, John Deere, Sandvik, Atlas Copco and BOMAG. Direct engagement with students and educators gives future professionals a clearer understanding of available career paths and the technical skills these industries require.

Building Capability for the Future

The first half of 2026 reinforced a principle that has long guided Genequip: strong equipment support begins with capable people. First aid training strengthened internal preparedness. Factory programmes expanded technical knowledge. Customer training supported safer and more productive operation. The partnership with GTI helped introduce another generation to careers in Guyana’s industrial sectors.

As demand for skilled operators and technicians continues to grow, Genequip will keep investing in the people and knowledge that support long-term performance.
