Atlas Copco XAS 98: Compressed Air and Power in One Mobile Package

When your work depends on compressed air, you need a machine that can keep up with the job. But what if you also need electricity for power tools or other equipment? That is where the Atlas Copco XAS 98 2-in-1 Compressor and Generator Unit becomes particularly useful. The XAS 98 combines reliable compressed-air performance with an integrated 9 kVA generator, giving operators access to compressed air and electrical power from one mobile machine. Better yet, both can be used at the same time. For contractors, maintenance teams, and industrial users who depend on pneumatic equipment, that is a combination worth taking a closer look at.

Start with Compressed Air

Let’s start with the compressor itself. This unit delivers a working pressure of 7 bar and a free air delivery of 5.3 m³/min. It is suited for applications including pneumatic tools, mortar pumps, and abrasive blasting equipment, giving businesses the flexibility to use one compressor across different types of compressed-air work.

The machine also provides three 3/4-inch air outlets, giving operators multiple connection points for compressed-air equipment. Whether you are supporting tools on a jobsite or handling demanding industrial work, it brings a useful combination of output and versatility to the operation.

Add Electrical Power to the Equation

This is where the XAS 98 KDG becomes even more interesting. Its built-in 9 kVA generator supplies 230 V and 400 V power and includes three electrical outlets for connecting electrical tools and equipment.

And you do not have to choose between air and electricity. The compressor and generator can operate simultaneously. During combined operation, the XAS 98 still delivers 5.0 m³/min of compressed air.

That means pneumatic equipment can be running while electrical equipment is also being powered from the same machine. For businesses that need both capabilities, having them together in one mobile package can make equipment planning much more straightforward.

Powered by a Kubota Diesel Engine

At the heart of the XAS 98 is a Kubota V1505T diesel engine. This four-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine produces 33 kW and operates at a maximum engine speed of 3,000 rpm. The compressor is also equipped with a 60-litre fuel tank. Efficiency has also been considered in the design. The patented screw element used in this generation of compressors delivers a 12% reduction in specific fuel consumption. The engine and screw element are connected without belts or couplings, creating a straightforward drive system.

Maintenance Designed to Be Straightforward

Nobody wants equipment spending unnecessary time out of service for routine maintenance.

The XAS 98 is designed to make servicing more convenient, with organized drainage for the engine and compressor oils and an external oil separator. Scheduled servicing takes an average of no more than one hour, approximately half the time required on the previous generation. The service interval is once every two years or every 1,000 operating hours, whichever comes first.

Protection for Demanding Working Environments

A mobile compressor does not spend its life in one place. It has to handle transportation and the demanding conditions that come with day-to-day work. The XAS 98 uses an impact-resistant polyethylene canopy together with a triple anti-corrosion coating on its metal base, helping protect the machine and its internal components. It is also designed to operate in ambient temperatures of up to 50°C, an important specification for equipment working in hot conditions. Depending on the required setup, the XAS 98 can also be configured on a chassis for towing or without a chassis on supports or skids for transportation in a truck body.
