Start with a Stable Foundation
Before asphalt is placed, the subgrade and base layers must be prepared to carry the expected load. Compaction needs to be uniform across the site. Weak areas left untreated can affect the layers placed above them and reduce the road’s service life.

Match the Roller to the Asphalt Work
Once asphalt placement begins, machine selection and rolling control become critical. The roller must suit the material, layer and size of the job.
BOMAG light tandem rollers are commonly used for maintenance, asphalt repairs and finishing work. Larger tandem rollers can support the compaction of base, binder and surface courses on major road projects. Address Problems Below the Surface
Some roads require more than another asphalt layer. When the existing base or subgrade is weak, repairing only the surface may leave the main structural problem unresolved. BOMAG recyclers and soil stabilisers can be used for cold recycling, base stabilisation and subsoil improvement. During cold recycling, existing road material can be milled, processed and mixed with binders to create a new base course. Stabilisation can also improve existing soil before the next road layer is constructed.
Reusing or stabilising material on site can reduce the need to remove damaged material and transport replacement material to the project. Depending on the application, this can shorten project timelines, conserve resources and reduce costs associated with material movement.
